There is no known single cause for schizophrenia. Many diseases, such as heart disease, result from a number of genetic, behavioural and/or other factors. This is probably the case for schizophrenia too. Not all the factors that play a role in schizophrenia are understood. However, experts agree that the disease is due to abnormal brain function. A number of these factors have been identified.
