Michael Schumacher skids off the Barcelona race track and into McLaren designer Adrian Newey at Barcelona
Reigning world champion Michael Schumacher crashed on his first Formula 1 lap of the year at Barcelona this morning slamming firmly into McLaren Chief Designer Adrian Newey who had walked upto the corner to watch the German on his initial lap.
Schumacher lost control of his Ferrari on his installation lap at 9.01 this morning and spun backwards into Adrian Newey at the Circuit de Catalunya. Schumacher was unhurt but the rear of the car and Adrian Newey's drawings of the MP18 prototype were badly damaged.
According to witnesses Mr. Newey seemed a bit shocked after the incident but was otherwise unhurt. Schumacher then walked up to the English designer, took Newey's glasses, stepped on them and walked gracefully back to the Ferrari pit area with a noticeable grin on his face.
