Agmatine has been found to have neuroprotective effect in both acute and chronic CNS disorders. Agmatine modulates different receptors and ion channels that are responsible for the progression and resolution of CNS injury. There are a number of studies that reported that, both endogenous and exogenous agmatine possess beneficiary role on most CNS cells such as neuron, astrocytes, microglia and oligodendrocytes and also modulate the differentiation, proliferation and migration of those cells.
