On this day, 24 years ago, four F-16s from the 526th Tactical Fighter Squadron, operating under NATO's Operation Deny Flight, shoot down four Serb Super Galeb attack aircraft after they violated Bosnian airspace (February 28, 1994). These were NATO’s first air-to-air kills.

One of them was piloted by Scott O'Grady who would be shot down the next year. The first pair broke off since they where bingo fuel at that point. Three kills went to Robert "Wilbur" Wright. One to Stephen Allen.

US Aircraft Carrier Arrives in Vietnam for Historic Visit

DA NANG, Vietnam (NNS) -- USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) arrived in Da Nang, Vietnam, for a scheduled port call March 5, marking the first time a U.S. aircraft carrier has visited the country in more than 40 years.

The aircraft carrier arrived with two escort ships, cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) and destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108). The Carl Vinson Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled deployment in the Indo-Asian-Pacific region.

"The visit marks an enormously significant milestone in our bilateral relations and demonstrates U.S. support for a strong, prosperous, and independent Vietnam," said U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink. "Through hard work, mutual respect, and by continuing to address the past while we work toward a better future, we have gone from former enemies to close partners."

Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet Adm. Scott Swift, echoed similar sentiments.

"Our nations' relationship has reached new heights in the past few years, and USS Carl Vinson's port visit to Vietnam is a reflection of that," said Swift. "I am confident that engagements like this will further expand the comprehensive partnership between the United States and Vietnam."

Top leaders from the United States and Vietnam discussed the possibility of an aircraft carrier visit last year as part of an effort to further defense relations.

"This is a historic day and we are honored to receive such a warm welcome here," said Rear Adm. John Fuller, the strike group commander. "Also, we'd like to thank Vietnam for the excellent logistical support that makes this visit possible. The United States and Vietnam are cooperating more closely than ever before."

Sailors will participate in cultural and professional exchanges during community service projects, sports competitions, and receptions planned for the port call. Additionally, Navy musicians from the U.S. 7th Fleet Band will perform free concerts for the public.

Carl Vinson is America's third Nimitz-class aircraft carrier with a crew of 5,000 Sailors who support and conduct air operations at sea. The strike group is comprised of a total of 6,000 Sailors, an aircraft carrier, an air wing, a cruiser and two destroyers.

The carrier group's deployment marks the second time it is operating in the Indo-Asian-Pacific region under U.S. 3rd Fleet's command and control. U.S. 3rd Fleet's control of ships and aircraft across the Western Pacific and beyond the international dateline to India, enables U.S. 3rd and 7th Fleet to operate together across a broad spectrum of maritime missions in the region.

Zanimljiv je bio clanak neki dan da su izraelci sa F35 letjeli iznad Irana i da ih iranci nisu skuzili. E sad me zanima da se ta vijest npr pojavila sa ruskim ulogama...9nda bi to bio ultimativni stroj, nepobjediv itd...al kad su ameri/izraelci ilo njihovi saveznici u pitanju, e onda je to samo novinski napis za koji nema dokaza. Kao sto nema ni za S400...

To je fake news koji nema apsolutno nikakvog smisla. Niti F-35 ima domet da odradi tu misiju bez dodatnih tankova, niti je jasno sto bi tamo uopce radili? Izvidjacka misija? Cega? Na koncu da su stvarno i letili bez da su ih Irancsi skuzili, nije li pomalo besmisleno to leakati u novine?

O članku i navodima neću, no po svemu sudeći dosad (razni komadići informacija o potrošnji goriva, usporedbe borbenih radijusa drugih aviona sa maks doletom i slično) F-35A ima maksimalni tehnički dolet od cca 3000 km. Lockheed Martin ga je reklamirao da doseže 720 NM radijusa u misiji zračne borbe. To je 1330 km, a za nekakav drugi profil misije možda bi se moglo navući i 1400 km radijusa, bez tankanja. Taman bi falilo još jedno 100 km do Teherana.

The current fleet of large icebreakers consists of one operational heavy icebreaker, the USCGC Polar Star, and one medium icebreaker, the USCGC Healy. Both ships are planned to be replaced by 3 heavy and 3 medium icebreakers. The new fleet of icebreakers will allow the USCG to perform missions in the Arctic such as defense operations and readiness, defending U.S. sovereignty and interests, national security activities and maritime safety, PWCS (Ports, waterways, and coastal security), research, search and rescue, and logistic support and vessel escort.

ovih 32 LCS, odnosno 35 sa FY19, biti će sasvim fino naoružani s obzirom da mijenjaju 11 Avenger-class mine countermeasure ships te 14 Cyclone-class patrol craft, em će dobiti više brodova, em će biti bolje naoružani, em imaju pistu te nose 3 helikoptera, dva unmanned Fire Scout za nadzor i jedan protupodmornički Seahawk.

Mišljenja?

Mislim da Mattis tu nije u pravu, to će izokrenuti mornaričku logistiku naopako, i rezultirati još manjom raspoloživošću kroz koju godinu...

u FY19 Ameri planiraju kupiti 3LCS-a više nego su planirali kako bi premostili gap, dok ne krene gradnja nove fregate.

zašto im ne daju da grade 3 dodatna tankera za tu godinu, koji košta identično koliko i LCS-ovi?
