Design exhibition in Galerija Avla NLB

Philippe Apeloig
After completing his education in Paris, Philippe Apeloig began his graphic design career at Total Design in Amsterdam. After his return to Paris, he started to work as a graphic designer at Musee d'Orsay and in 1988, he worked in Los Angeles with designer April Greiman. Upon his second return to Paris in 1989, he started to work independently. After ten years, he went back to the USA for three years to teach and work as a preserver. In 1995, he was awarded the Gold Award from the Tokyo Type Directors Club while in 1999 he received the Special Juror's Prize. He has been a design consultant for the Musee du Louvre since 1997 and he became the art director in 2002. In the same year, he won the international competition for designing the logo for IUAV (Instituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia). Currently, he works on designing posters, logotypes, visual identities, and book designs for corporate and cultural institutions. As Margo Rouard-Snowman, the curator at graphic exhibitions and design has put in the introductory text to the exhibition, Philippe Apeloig is undoubtedly one of the most creative members of his generation. His creations may appear very demanding at first sight although they are authoritative and mysterious enough so as to encourage the viewer to take time to read them. As for the author himself, he says about his work: ?I would like to inspire my posters with fictitious motion.?

Exhibited in the Galerija Avla NLB there are 21 posters which the author has created for cultural institutions (eg. Musee d'Orsay, Musee du Louvre, Musee des Beaux-Arts de Tours), educational centres (eg.La Cite du Livre d' Aix-en-Provence, Arc en R?ve / centre d'architecture) and for special cultural events.

The exhibition will be on view from 20 November 2003 to 9 January 2004. The gallery is open every workday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The exhibition has been organized in cooperation with the Arts Magazine Emzin, Metelkova 6, Ljubljana, contact person Jasna Rackov, telephone +386 1 430 35 44, fax +386 1 430 35 40, and the Institut Francais Charles Nodier.
