Koliko ste puta pogledali neki film, oduševili se istim i potom „grozničavo“ počeli tražiti sve moguće i nemoguće informacije o tom audiovizualnom „čudu“? Primjerice, tragajući za audio snimkom zadnjih šest minuta života Timothyja Treadwella („Grizzly Man“ by Werner Herzog), možda ste nekom pukom slučajnošću otkrili nešto sasvim drugo, ništa manje vrijedno – dokument kojeg u svojoj bogatoj arhivi nema ni Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (hm, i sada ga sebično držite na HDD-u?).

- dobro filmsko linkovlje
- rijetki dokumenti
- web 2.0 čudesa
- blog preporuke
- još rjeđi intervjui
- video oporuka Stanleyja Kubricka
- Mission Statement by Jerry Maguire (pih, zašto ne? )

This is Movie Info blow out! Come on, movie lovers! If we don't got it, you don't want it!

(Važna napomena: Because a thing is free does not mean it is not also priceless.

RIJETKI DOKUMENTI:

What may be a holy grail of Indiana Jones artifacts was posted online on Monday: a 125-page transcript of the original story-conference meeting involving producer George Lucas, director Steven Spielberg, and writer Lawrence Kasdan. The blog, Mystery Man on Film, somehow got its hands on the alleged transcript, which features the filmmakers talking at great length in January 1978 about what would eventually become Raiders of the Lost Ark. The thing's a pure joy to read. In it, you can find the genesis of everything from Indiana Jones' name to his fear of snakes to his (possibly risque) romantic history with Marion Ravenwood.

INTERVIEW

This is a gem: A 1965 interview with the great screenwriter-director Federico Fellini. We think of Fellini as a director, but did you know he has over 50 film-writing credits including La strada (1954), La dolce vita (1960), 8½ (1963), Giulietta degli spiriti (1965), Fellini - Satyricon (1969), Roma (1972, and Amarcord (1973).

This 7-minute excerpt from the interview Fellini talks about how immersed he can become in the story world when directing one of his movies, and in keeping with his fascination with the subconscious, dreams, and fantasy, even talks about taking LSD:

Video Interview -- Woody Allen

Here's a rarity: An interview with Woody Allen from 1971. At this point, he had written screenplays for What's New Pussycat (1965), What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966), Take the Money and Run (1969), and Bananas (1971).

George Lucas Vs. Frank Darabont

Why Frank Darabont Told George Lucas 'You're Insane' Over 'Indiana Jones 4'

Najveća hebena greška u karijeri Georga Lucasa, definitivno. Long story short...

Quote:
I spent a year of very determined effort on something I was very excited about, working very closely with Steven Spielberg and coming up with a result that I and he felt was terrific. He wanted to direct it as his next movie, and then suddenly the whole thing goes down in flames because George Lucas doesn't like the script. I told him he was crazy. I said, "You have a fantastic script. I think you're insane, George." You can say things like that to George, and he doesn't even blink. He's one of the most stubborn men I know. At this point, I don't give much of a damn what George thinks, but I wouldn't want to harm my friendship with Steaven.
Da, baš skilavio - svi ste gledali Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, to je moglo biti puno, puno bolje.

Indiana Jones And The City Of The Gods by Frank Darabont

Video interview with Orson Welles

The Internet never ceases to amaze me. Below is an excerpt from an interview with Orson Welles. I've never seen it before today, never even knew of its existence until I started bumping around the web. Two things about the interview. First, Welles reveals that the idea of 'home' is very important to him because as a child, his family moved multiple times, so he never really had what he would call a home. Second, he confesses that his least favorite thing about Citizen Kane was Rosebud -- he calls it a "rather tawdry device."

May I humbly disagree. First, Rosebud serves numerous narrative functions: framing device for the narrative, source of a mystery as well as eventually the key to solving it, the sled and the snow globe powerful visual devices, taking on talismanic significance.

But beyond that, I wonder if Welles is doing a bit of deflection here. In response to the interviewer's question, "Is there anything that came out of that [i.e., Welles' family moving around so much] in the movie," Welles offers a definitive no. But isn't 'home' what Rosebud -- the sled / snow globe -- represents to Kane, that one time and one place where he was truly happy, his youthful winter wonderland, he and his friends, sledding in the snow, only to be yanked out of there by life's sudden turn? And so isn't it fair to think that Welles' desire to have a single place he could call home (he says so point blank in the interview) is reflected in the experience of young Charles Foster Kane? Therefore, Rosebud can be seen to be much more than a "tawdry device," it is precisely the whole point of Kane's existence, constantly attempting in all his life endeavors to find some thing, some place he could call 'home.' Yet he could never satisfy that almost infantile need, which is why it's so riveting to see him wandering the halls of Xanadu on the night of his death, clutching the snow globe, then offering up his final word, "Rosebud."

Watch this fascinating interview and see what you think.

Aaron Sorkin On Character Development

Nine-time Emmy Award-winner, Aaron Sorkin has delivered notable work as both a writer and producer. Known for such films as The West Wing, The American President and Charlie Wilson’s War, Sorkin took an early interest in acting and spent much of the 1980’s struggling for roles in New York. He quickly found a passion for writing plays, developing into a promising playwright soon thereafter. Film studios took an interest in his hit stage play A Few Good Men, and Castle Rock Entertainment quickly picked up the project, making it his first major film adaptation. Sorkin shares his remarkable insight on creating compelling stories and characters, including his main interest, taking a character from good to great.

Ron Howard

From his early acting days on The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days, Ron Howard has become one of today’s most prominent filmmakers and producers in the entertainment industry. Among these films, he won two Oscars for A Beautiful Mind, both for Best Picture and Best Director, 9 Academy Award nominations for Apollo 13, and most recently, a Best Picture Oscar nomination for Frost/Nixon. Howard is also the co-chairman of Imagine Entertainment, which has produced projects such as Friday Night Lights, 8 Mile, Inside Deep Throat, and 24. Howard gives some extraordinary insight into his work as a director and discusses his current project, Angels and Demons, the prequel to the widely popular Da Vinci Code.

Video interview: Shawn Lawrence Otto

"In the end, you're left with your life. Your own life is the most important asset that you have, the most important creation that you have. And I didn't want to come to the end of mine and think, 'What if I didn't try to do what I loved and what I should be doing.'"

Those are the words of screenwriter Shawn Lawrence Otto in this interview re the movie he wrote >House of Sand and Fog (2003). Words about why he was drawn to writing. Otto is working on another movie he wrote Dreams of a Dying Heart which he plans to direct.

Interesting Vancouver-based website called MovieSet. From their description:
MovieSet brings the authentic behind the scenes experience of working on a film set directly online to fans in exciting new ways. Follow the creation of movies from development through production, right up to their release and beyond. Keep track of the latest movie news, watch exclusive video and read blogs from the movie's creators.

It's a cool website, tracking a movie's genesis from Development, Pre-Production, Production, Post-Production, and Distribution. Bumping around the blogsite, they seem to have most of the movies covered. For example, here is their webpage re Tron. They provide all the above-the-line people attached to the movie, along with links to their bios (here's a link to producer Jeff Silver, who I got to know with a couple of Burg & Myers projects at ****** Productions).

They also have a blog and from 3/16-3/18, they are providing a live stream online from the set of Death Warrior. Definitely worth checking out.

Video Interview: James L. Brooks

This is an amazing find. Approximately 5 hours of interviews with James L. Brooks. He's had a prolific writing and directing career, both in TV -- "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" (1970-1977), "Rhoda" (1974-1975), "Taxi" (1978-1980), and "Lou Grant" (1977-1982), all of which Brooks co-created -- and movies including Terms of Endearment (1983), Broadcast News (1987), I'll Do Anything (1994), As Good As It Gets (1997), Spanglish (2004). Oh yes, there's that humble little TV show -- "The Simpsons" -- on which Brooks is credited as an E.P. with 431 episodes.

The one and only - John Milius

You know that line in "Dirty Harry" in which Clint Eastwood's Harry Callahan describes the power of the .44 Magnum? John Milius wrote that line.

Remember the line in "Jaws" when Robert Shaw, playing the shark hunter, talks about his buddies being eaten alive by sharks during World War II? That was Milius.

How about the line in "Apocalypse Now," when Robert Duvall, playing a surf-loving Army colonel, says, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning"?

Milius again.

Clearly Milius is a talent. He's also a larger-than-life figure as underscored by some choice excerpts from the CNN article:

"Apocalypse Now" has its own morality, said Milius. "It has its own rules."

That might also be said about Milius himself -- who displays what might be described as a larger-than-life personality. He's said to be the model for the character Walter Sobchak in the Coen brothers' "The Big Lebowski," an item Milius doesn't dispute.

"They told me they based that character on me," Milius said, adding that he had previously turned down the Coens' offer to appear in their film "Barton Fink" as a studio chief.

*****

Robert Shaw's "Jaws" speech about how sharks attacked survivors of the torpedoed USS Indianapolis was written "literally over the phone," Milius said. "I gave it to them, and they went out and shot it." (Milius work on the film was uncredited; Peter Benchley and Carl Gottlieb are the credited screenwriters.)

And then there's the famous "napalm" line from "Apocalypse."

"I just wrote it -- it just came up," said Milius, describing the famous line uttered wistfully by Duvall's surfing Col. Bill Kilgore. "That's what happens. People love to think that all this stuff happens when you write a famous line -- that you really thought about it a lot."

*****

Although he admires a few scripts from modern-day Hollywood -- such as P.T. Anderson's "Boogie Nights," "Hard Eight" and "There Will Be Blood" -- most Hollywood scripts that get made today are "garbage," Milius said, written by "broken writers" with no "shame."

"There's no shame in the world, and without shame, you cannot have honor. Our world is ruled by consensus now. There is no sense of honor."

If that sounds like the lament of an outsider, Milius said it's probably because he feels like he's been treated like one through much of his career, given his reputation as a conservative and his opposition to gun-control laws.
"I've led a whole life behind enemy lines. I've been the victim of so much persecution," he said. "I'm the barbarian of Hollywood."
Milius -- writer, director, conservative, gun rights advocate, iconoclast.

And let's not forget surfer: But Milius isn't all blood and thunder. As a surfer, whose surfing exploits as a teen helped to forge his self-sufficient world view, he's lent his gruff voice as narrator to a new documentary about surfing soldiers during the Vietnam War. "Between the Lines" reveals a chapter of the war not widely known, outside the fiction of Duvall's character and his famous line, "Charlie don't surf."

Ili... Ipak ne, baniralo bi me, garant. Nda, kompletan dokumentarac Wernera Herzoga možete pogledati na "jubitou" (u deset dijelova, poslije klikajte sami).

Video interview: Beyond Words 2009

Moderated by writer-director Judd Apatow, the five panelists were all nominated for screenwriting awards this year: Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire), Dustin Lance Black (Milk), Tom McCarthy (The Visitor), Jonah Nolan (The Dark Knight), and Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

Well, here's about 8 minutes of Q&A with the screenwriters before the event where they end up providing the best piece of writing advice they've ever been given.
